I think I've messed up the scale of the model though as my figure is more in proportion to a 32-35mm piece. Not the end of the world by any means but something to keep in mind for future work. Also, it's very hard to get the definition that you want sometimes. I definitely need more practise.
Also superglue...I love it and hate it. Something about my presence makes it work like a dream half of the time, and completely fail the other half.
Still I have some of my honrou guard done now. I ended up with two sets after a miscast problem and have converted one chapter champion to have a thunder hammer. It looks pretty good I think.
These are really nicely made models and the only problem I have with them is the gluing together as superglue hates me and epoxy takes ages to dry.
Here is grey man from the front. I've tried to add some shape and musculature on the body and the face has a scar because I messed up his right eye and couldn't figure out how to fix it. You can see around his upper chest where the new layer of putty didn't stick on so easily. The rod in his arm is there so I can model the barrel of a big old gun there. I'll also be trying to make some kind of cool mechanical contrivance for his cyborg arm section.
His back side. It's tough to make the right shape of musculature here and I had fun bulking out his buttocks while my wife looked on over my shoulder ;-)

What is it about Thunder Hammers that just look so good on Marines? That chap looks great. I take it they're going to be Ultramarines?

Good luck with the sculpting, I haven't tried that yet, but it is on my to do list - I think I've avoided it so far because it looks so difficult!

ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean. I got the thunder hammer from a bits site for a model idea that I never went through with. It was only when I was trying to think of ways to differentiate the same pose honour guards that it seemed to jump out of my bits box.
These guys won't be ultramarines but will be a successor chapter (had to account for the iconography somehow). I'm planning to field them in white armour and have them as the last survivors of another chapter, fighting until they die and can be absolved. I've painted up a banner bearer (bought from a bits site also) who appears a few posts back on this blog. I'll be using that colour scheme for these guys too once I get them assembled and primed.
Putty man has now got a crude gun on his arm, a hydraulic rod across his chest and some knees and shins. It's still a lot harder than I thought it would be and I've got better ideas for how to do the next one. I'll post up some pictures tonight when I get a minute.
